Fear is natural.
When we experience or we’re overwhelmed by emotions like fear, jealousy, worry, anxiety, or suffering, we strive to overcome these emotions to make them go away. But having gone through difficult times and experienced a life of hard knocks, we eventually realize that those awkward moments give us strength and lead to some of the most significant accomplishments and realizations in our lives, bestowing upon our lives meaning.
Fighting such emotions may not be the solution to all that goes on around us; instead we should use them to create something better. Healing emotions are not created by magic, just as our bodies heal naturally when we’re ill, our spiritual and emotional selves become stronger and heal when we invite relaxing and supportive thoughts into our lives.
Let’s be clear here, I am not suggesting that you remove negative or uncomfortable emotions from your life altogether; what I am recommending is that you use such feelings to drive yourself forward in a positive way.
Don’t allow your life to take the wrong turn because of the uncomfortable emotions of the moment. Take advantage of such situations to come up with the things that you most desire in your life, to clearly distinguish who you are and the things you value most deeply. Developing an effective way to deal with and process your emotions will offer you a rare opportunity to pursue your life with increased joy, gratitude, and ease.
Training our subconscious mind
To follow this new way of life, we must repattern our reaction to fear. The exciting part about learning is that whenever we consciously learn and practice things, the new lessons stick in our subconscious mind, allowing us to apply those lessons in the future should we face such challenges when they turn up again. Learning something new can also help to resolve our past difficulties, offering us a golden opportunity to work through our old memories with a new perspective.
When you verbalise your repatterning strategy your conscious mind starts to develop a subconscious habit.
Re-patterning statements will offer you not just affirmation but will provide you with a framework or rather a structure that your mind can use henceforth. In the end, the re-patterning statements will come up each time you need them in your day to day activities and even when you’re sleeping.
You can also personalize the re-patterning statements and make them specific to your situation and needs. Whenever you say each statement remember to breathe in deeply through your nose and out through your mouth. This is helpful as it gives you a chance to feel your body respond.
Each time you notice a blank in your re-patterning statements, fill it with anything that comes to mind. Such spaces are there so that you can personalize your comments with life examples that are of importance to you.
How to re-pattern
Let us try to figure out how the whole process works. Sit quietly for some time and choose one fear that you have as you say the following statements out loud:
I have entirely forgiven myself for trusting. I need help with this kind of fear
I notice this fear and completely forgive myself for believing that it was my only possible response
For a long time, I have suffered from this fear and have forgiven myself for thinking it was the only choice I had
I have decided to keep calm and let go of the fear
I have taken the chance to walk through fear, and it is not helping at all.
I have allowed myself to learn whatever this experience takes me through and let the fear go.
I have decided to do away with fear. It does not associate with me or in any way to define me.
I have decided to let the fear go from all the places in my body, heart, mind, and soul wherever I held it, and instead I’ll experience calmness
I have decided to release the fear and live a happy mindful life
I now focus on how it feels to be calm
I now bring calmness into my spirit and body
Right now, I am ready to do anything that brings peace to my mind
I now love being calm
I know what being calm means
I love staying with calm people
Today, I am increasing the calm in my body and soul
I have become calm
I can now start to define myself as calm. I now feel like me.
